The band hosted a variety show, "The Starland Vocal Band Show," that ran on CBS for six weeks in the summer of 1977. David Letterman was a writer and regular on the show, which also featured Mark Russell, Jeff Altman, and Proctor and Bergman. (Band broke up by 1981.)

William Harrison "Bill" Withers, Jr. (born July 4, 1938) is an American singer-songwriter and musician who performed and recorded from 1970 until 1985. He recorded a number of hits such as "Lean on Me", "Ain't No Sunshine", "Use Me", "Just the Two of Us", "Lovely Day", and "Grandma's Hands". His life was the subject of the 2009 documentary film Still Bill.

Though classically trained in piano, Carmen became a self-taught guitarist. At 15, he started guitar lessons, but since the teacher's approach did not fit with what he wanted, he decided to teach himself. He bought a Beatles chord book and taught himself to play guitar for the next four months.

The Guess Who are a Canadian rock band from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Pure Prairie League, sometimes abbreviated PPL, is an American country-rock band whose roots began between 1965 and 1969 in Waverly, Ohio.  In 1970 McGrail named the band after a fictional 19th century temperance union featured in the 1939 Errol Flynn cowboy movie Dodge City. The band has had a long run, active from the 1970s through the late 1980s and was revived in the late 1990s for a time, then again in 2004. "Angie" is a song by rock band The Rolling Stones, featured on their 1973 album Goats Head Soup.  Written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards and recorded in November and December 1972, "Angie" is an acoustic guitar driven ballad which tells of the end of a romance.

Danny & the Juniors are a doo-wop quartet from Philadelphia comprising Danny Rapp, Dave White, Frank Maffei and Joe Terranova. Formed in 1955, they are most widely recognized for their hit single "At the Hop", which was released in 1957. They are sometimes erroneously stated as being an Italian-American band (lead singer Danny Rapp was actually of Irish extraction).
